Susanna Peeples is in her eighth year as the Vocal Music Director at Granite Bay High School where she teaches four choirs and musical theatre. Previously, she led award-winning choirs at McNair High School in Stockton where she taught for six years. She is currently one of the CCDA All-State Honor Choir Co-Chairs. She is also Department Chair of the Performing Arts Department at Granite Bay. She was voted Granite Bay High School's Teacher of the Year in 2021-2022 and in that same year was honored as the CCDA Early Career Conductor of the Year. Most recently, she was awarded the CMEA Capitol Section Choral Educator of the Year. In addition to choir, Susanna has taught piano, guitar, and AP Music Theory. Susanna earned her B.A. in Vocal Music from UC Davis, and her M.M. in Music Education from University of the Pacific.
Corie Brown (she/her) serves as Associate Professor of Choral Studies and Music Education at San José State University. She has taught in both public school and community settings, ranging from Chicago and Michigan public schools to Colombia’s El Sistema-based Fundación Nacional Batuta.
As a conductor and clinician, Brown is active nationally and internationally. She has performed and guest conducted in a variety of spaces, including Seattle’s Benaroya Hall, the university music festival of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, the Central Coast CCDA Tenor/Bass Choir, and the Michigan School Vocal Music Association’s State Choral Festival.
Brown’s scholarship is wide-ranging, and includes publications with GIA, and presentations that center Latin American choral music, engagement in the rehearsal, and women composers. Brown is a published arranger with Hal Leonard in the Andrea Ramsey Choral Series, and co-edits the Molina Brown Choral Series with La Voz Music Publishing.
As a mezzo-soprano, Brown has appeared with the Ad Astra Music Festival and Oregon Bach Festival Chorus, as well as the University of Oregon Chamber Choir, University of Colorado Boulder University Singers, and award-winning Chicago Chorale. She has sung with conductors such as Helmuth Rilling, Matthew Halls, Sharon Paul, and Eric Whitacre.
Brown’s professional training is thanks to Alma College, University of Oregon, and University of Colorado Boulder as well as countless informal mentors. She is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association, California Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Education, and National Collegiate Choral Directors Association. Alongside the arts, she is fed by time with her cat Inu, her community, and exploring the natural world.
